Overview
The Glendronach Aged 40 Years is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky positioned at the upper end of the distillery’s flagship age-stated range. Matured for four decades in selected Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks from Jerez, it represents an extended expression of The Glendronach’s traditional sherry-led house style.
The Spirit
The whisky is matured for forty years in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks selected and monitored by Master Blender Rachel Barrie. The distillery identifies the casks as Spanish oak sourced from bodegas in Jerez, Andalucía and matured in its traditional dunnage warehouses.
The appearance is described as intense black ochre. Black cherry, stewed plum and blackberry lead the nose, accompanied by sherry-soaked chocolate cake and roasted coffee character. The palate develops blackcurrant and bramble compote, prune, raisin and cinnamon-laced chocolate espresso, with the extended maturation providing substantial fruit concentration and mature oak structure.
