The Glendronach | Aged 12 Years | 700ml
Catalogue Preview
A classic sherry-matured Highland single malt combining autumn fruit, chocolate, orange and warming spice.
Overview
The Glendronach Aged 12 Years is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky forming part of the distillery’s flagship range. Matured for at least twelve years in Spanish Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, it provides a direct introduction to The Glendronach’s established sherry-led house style.
The Spirit
The whisky is matured for a minimum of twelve years in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 43% ABV. It is presented at natural colour. The producer describes a rich amber-red gold appearance, with autumn fruits, chocolate praline, gingerbread and sun-dried raisin on the nose.
The palate develops caramelised bramble, orange and sultana, supported by warming spice and a creamy texture. The combination of PX and Oloroso casks provides both sweeter dried-fruit character and a firmer, nuttier sherry structure.
Why It Matters
The Glendronach 12 Year Old is significant as the foundation of the distillery’s age-stated flagship range. Its importance lies in the clarity with which it presents the producer’s traditional reliance on sherry-cask maturation rather than secondary finishing.
The use of both Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks also establishes the stylistic framework seen across older expressions in the range, balancing richer fruit and sweetness with spice, chocolate and more structured oxidative character.
Serving & Context
Serve neat initially in a tulip-shaped glass and allow several minutes for the dried fruit, chocolate and orange notes to develop. At 43% ABV, water is not essential, although a few drops may soften the spice and reveal further fruit sweetness.
Availability Note
The Glendronach Aged 12 Years remains part of the distillery’s current flagship portfolio and is produced as an ongoing core-range expression rather than a limited release.
